Busker festivals

A busker festival is built around the circle show: an artist takes a pitch, gathers a crowd from nothing, and is paid by that crowd at the end. Most of the festivals here work on the hat, some pay a fee on top, and a few pay a fee instead. The difference matters enormously to whether a week is profitable, and it is almost never stated on the festival's own homepage — you find it in the application terms, or by asking.

What these festivals want is a show that works without a stage, without a booked audience, and often without a shared language. Build-up matters more than the trick: an act that cannot stop a stranger in the first forty seconds will not fill a circle, however good the ending is. Programmers watch for that specifically in application videos, which is why an uncut recording with a real crowd beats a polished promo every time.
