IT Country guide
Street festivals in Italy
33 festivals in the directory, running from May to October. 32 of them run an open call.
Italy has more street festivals than any other country here and the least centralised information about them. Many are run by a local association rather than a city, which means the call is announced on Facebook and nowhere else. The Sardinian cluster — Gallura, Iglesias, Castelsardo, Pula — is worth treating as a single trip. Ferrara, running since 1988, is the oldest international busking festival in the world.
Applying in Italy
32 of the 33 festivals listed here accept applications directly — 2 through an online form and 30 by writing to the organisers. The rest build their programmes by invitation or through curators, which means the way in is to be seen at the festivals that do run calls.
Write in the local language wherever you can. It is a small circuit and a message in the organiser's own language reads as respect, not effort.
