The Dutch circuit leans towards locatietheater — theatre made for a specific place — more than towards busking. Deventer Op Stelten is the exception and the big one, with over 175 performances in a weekend. Several Dutch and Belgian festivals book through agencies rather than direct, so getting onto an agency's roster can be worth more than applying festival by festival.
Applying in Netherlands
8 of the 10 festivals listed here accept applications directly — 2 through an online form and 6 by writing to the organisers. The rest build their programmes by invitation or through curators, which means the way in is to be seen at the festivals that do run calls.
Write in the local language wherever you can. It is a small circuit and a message in the organiser's own language reads as respect, not effort.
